Riding to Honour Those Who Served

From 6-10 September 2026, I will be taking part in the First Responder Ride for Resilience, a 343-mile (552km) cycling event from Boston to New York City. This ride commemorates the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, while raising funds to support first responders and veterans affected by trauma, injury, and cancer.

For me, this ride is deeply personal as I have witnessed firsthand the realities of war. I saw the devastation that followed the events of 9/11, the sacrifices made by service members, and the profound impact those years had on military families, communities, and Nations. I witnessed loss, suffering, and the lasting physical and psychological wounds that many carry long after returning home.

This ride also coincides with the 20th anniversary of Operation Medusa, one of the largest and most significant Canadian combat operations since the Korean War. For many CAF members, veterans, and families, Operation Medusa represents the courage, determination, and sacrifice of those who served in Afghanistan, as well as the heavy cost of war. Twenty years later, the memories remain, and so does our responsibility to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to carry the visible and invisible wounds of service.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, it is important that we remember not only the lives lost on that tragic day, but also the thousands of military members, first responders, and civilians whose lives were forever changed in the years that followed. Their sacrifices helped shape a generation and should never be forgotten.

As I ride each mile, I will be honoring the 343 first responders lost on September 11, 2001, the Canadian Armed Forces members who answered Canada's call in Afghanistan, the soldiers who fought during Operation Medusa, those who never came home, and those who continue to live with the consequences of their service.

I am asking for your support in helping me reach my fundraising goal. Every donation, regardless of size, will help support organizations dedicated to assisting those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

Twenty years after Operation Medusa and twenty-five years after 9/11, we remember.
For the fallen. For the wounded. For those still carrying the burden.
Lest We Forget.
