Saturday 8th AugThank you everyone for donating and sharing and overestimating my level of fitness and drive enough to give me the confidence and motivation to attempt this. At this point, I’ve raised enough money that backing out would be both embarrassing and possibly considered fraud. So now I actually have to ride 343 miles.
In preparing for this adventure I’m quickly learning that being in “firefighter shape” and sitting on a bicycle for several consecutive business days are two completely different things. My legs are tired, my ass has filed a grievance, and I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time researching padded underwear. But I’m genuinely excited your support has been unreal, and every donation gives me more motivation to finish.
Please keep donating and sharing. Every dollar goes to a great cause and slightly increases the stakes of public humiliation if I fail, which is proving to be extremely motivating. At this point, excitement, poor judgement, and fear of embarrassment are working together beautifully. So here we go! 343 miles on a bike. Because apparently just having a normal midlife crisis and buying a sports car is too cliché.
