Frequently Asked Questions
THE BASICS
What is Run for the Roses?
Run for the Roses is Livestrong's 5K and 10K run and walk in downtown Austin. It's a community event built for everyone impacted by cancer: survivors, people living with cancer, caregivers, and the friends and families cheering them on.
It's more than a race. Every cancer survivor who crosses the finish line is honored with a yellow rose, and every registration and dollar raised supports Livestrong's cancer survivorship programs.
When and where is it?
Sunday, October 18, 2026 at Auditorium Shores (Vic Mathias Shores), 900 W. Riverside Dr., Austin, TX 78704, right on Lady Bird Lake.
Check-in begins at 6:00 AM.
All races will begin at 8:00 AM.
The lineup is as follows:
- Survivors
- 10K runners
- 5K runners
Why roses?
Since the early days of Livestrong, cancer survivors have received a yellow rose at the finish line. It celebrates more than finishing a race. It marks another year of life as a survivor.
Where does the money go?
Funds raised support Livestrong's cancer survivorship work, the support that helps people rebuild their lives during and after treatment. That includes:
- Fitness: exercise oncology programs that help survivors rebuild strength
- Resources: guidance and support for people with cancer and their families
- Fertility: discounted fertility preservation services
- Advocacy: amplifying survivor voices on the policies that affect them
Our 2026 goal is to raise $100,000 for survivors.
You can find more information about where the money goes and what resources Livestrong offers at Livestrong.org
I'm a cancer survivor. What should I know?
This day is for you. At Livestrong, you're a survivor from the moment of diagnosis, whether you're years out from treatment or in the middle of it.
- You'll receive a survivor run/walk bib, so other survivors can spot you on the course.
- At the finish line, every survivor is handed a yellow rose.
