Cancer Survivors Need Your Support Now More Than Ever

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer while training for my first attempt at the Leadville LT100. Six weeks after surgery to remove the cancer, I lined up with the hopes of making it through the day. My day ended up being cut short at Twin Lakes after missing the time cut. Although, I DNF’d that day, it was still my personal victory to have made it to that point. 

Being selected to ride with Livestrong this year is such a fitting opportunity. I was lucky to have been early diagnosed and given the chance to fully recover. I have many family members and friends who weren’t so fortunate. I’m riding to show my gratitude for the treatment I was able to receive. I’m also riding for those who have passed on. I’m riding for those who are currently going through the battle and the families that are standing beside them. The toll cancer takes on a family can be devastating. 

In short, I’ve committed to raising funds for LIVESTRONG to support people navigating cancer at every stage — patients, survivors, and their loved ones. Funds raised help provide critical, free programs like fertility support for young adults facing cancer who hope to build a family one day; the LIVESTRONG at the Y program, which offers fitness and wellness classes at YMCAs to help survivors regain strength and confidence after treatment; and Ellis, Livestrongs AI service that connects individuals to trusted information, and resources, when they need it most.
