Cancer Survivors Need Your Support Now More Than Ever

This year, I will be running the New York City Marathon in support of the Livestrong Foundation — and I will be running with something deeply personal in my heart.

I’m dedicating this race to my grandfather, Stelios Zanakis, and my first goalkeeper coach, Scott Schweitzer — two men who had a profound impact on my life and who both passed away from cancer.

My grandfather showed me what strength, resilience, and family truly mean. Coach Scott shaped me not only as an athlete, but as a person. Both of them fought with courage. Both of them left a lasting legacy. And both of them are a big reason I am the person I am today.

This marathon will be especially meaningful because I won’t be doing it alone — I’ll be running it alongside my sister, Alexandra. Together, we’ll take on all 26.2 miles in honor of the people we love and in support of those who are still fighting.

Cancer touches far too many families. Through patient support, survivorship programs, and advocacy, Livestrong helps ensure that no one has to navigate that fight alone.

Training for a marathon is challenging — early mornings, long runs, tired legs — but those challenges are temporary. The impact of cancer is not. That perspective drives every mile.
