Meet Me in Leadville!

In August I'll take on the Leadville 100 riding with Livestrong, raising money to support individuals and families battling cancer.

In the spring of 2025, through a routine yearly physical, an elevated PSA level was detected. After another blood test, MRI, biopsy, and PET Scan it was confirmed, I had Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. It had spread to my lymph nodes and nerves on my left side. Surgery was recommended. With a planned work trip to Scottsdale for the winter we decided to ultimately have surgery at the Mayo Clinic in October. I had zero symptoms, zero reason to get my PSA tested but grateful I did.

Surgery on October 10, 2025, followed by 10 weeks of easing back into normal activities. Weekly treatments at an integrative cancer center, weekly clinically studies at Mayo and a complete reset of life as we knew it, not what we had envisioned for our lives at 49 years old. Walks in the desert, eventually turned to jogs, then cleared to ride a bike again, movement was therapeutic.

Five and a half months later we're doing well. Continued care at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center in Richmond, VA, and the transition has been fantastic. PSA checks every 3 months have stayed below an undetectable level, I am stronger every day. The care and support from family, friends, coworkers, and medical staff have been absolutely amazing and am grateful I had this incredible team fighting with me and for me.
